Elvis Costello
When Elvis Costello hit studio 6A during our 30th anniversary season in support of his Americana-influenced album The Delivery Man, it was a watershed moment for Austin City Limits. Now history stands to repeat itself, as the former Declan Patrick MacManus returns to our stage during another landmark anniversary year. As before, Costello is touring behind a record that nods to American music. Secret, Profane & Sugarcane was recorded live and acoustic over a series of sessions, with Costello backed by veteran session players and supervised by O Brother Where Art Thou producer T Bone Burnett. Heavily informed by country, bluegrass and gospel, the songs on Secret, Profane & Sugarcane (including “I Felt the Chill,” co-written with C&W great Loretta Lynn) add another sheaf of classics to Costello’s already illustrious catalog.
